About The Purr Post
The Purr Post is a cat care publication for owners in the United States. We research every article before we publish it, we show you where our information came from, and we tell you plainly when something needs a veterinarian instead of a website.

Why we started The Purr Post
Search for almost any cat question and you get the same answer eight times over. The litter box advice is copied from a 2011 forum post. The nutrition article was written by someone who has never read a guaranteed analysis panel. The “best automatic feeder” roundup lists products nobody tested, ranked by whoever paid the most commission.
Cat owners deserve better than that, because the stakes are real. A cat straining in the litter box can be a blocked urethra, and that is a matter of hours, not days. A sudden refusal to eat is not fussiness. Bad information about cats does not just waste money — it delays care.
We built The Purr Post to be the version of a cat website we wanted to find ourselves: written by people who actually read the research, honest about what is settled and what is still debated, and quick to send you to a veterinarian when that is the right answer.
What we cover
Everything we publish falls into one of these areas. Each one is built as a connected set of articles rather than scattered one-off posts, so you can read around a subject instead of hunting for the missing piece.
- Cat behaviour Why cats knead, bite, spray, hide and yowl at 4am — and what actually changes it.
- Cat health Symptoms worth worrying about, routine care, and knowing when to call the vet.
- Cat nutrition Reading labels, wet versus dry, life-stage feeding, and the myths that refuse to die.
- Kitten care The first year, week by week: socialisation, vaccines, litter training, growth.
- Cat breeds Temperament, grooming demands and the inherited conditions each breed carries.
- Cat supplies and gear Litter, boxes, food, carriers, trees and toys, judged on what matters to a cat.

How an article gets made
Every piece on this site goes through the same five stages. Nothing skips a step because it is short or because we are in a hurry.
We find the real question
Before writing, we work out what a reader is actually trying to solve. “Why is my cat peeing outside the litter box” is rarely a question about litter boxes.
We research from primary sources
Veterinary guidelines, peer-reviewed studies and university feline health centres come first. Other blogs are not sources, and we do not treat them as such.
We write it, then argue with it
A second member of the team reads every draft specifically looking for claims that are not supported, advice that could delay veterinary care, and confident statements about things the evidence does not settle.
We edit for a worried reader
People usually arrive here because something is wrong. Articles are edited so the urgent information is near the top and the answer is not buried under a story about somebody’s childhood cat.
We go back and fix it
Guidance changes and products get discontinued. Published articles are reviewed on a schedule and updated when the facts move, with the revision date shown on the page.
The full version of this process, including how we handle corrections and product testing, is written up in our editorial policy.
Who writes The Purr Post
The Purr Post is produced by a team of seven researchers, writers and editors working out of our office in Chhattisgarh, India. We publish under a shared editorial byline rather than individual author names.
We want to be straightforward about why. Our team members are working professionals who have asked not to have their names and photographs attached to public web content, and we think that is a reasonable thing to ask. We would rather tell you that honestly than invent author personas and stock-photo headshots, which is a common practice on sites in this niche and one we will not copy.
What we will not do is hide behind it. Every article carries the same standard of research regardless of whose name is on it, the process above applies to all of it, and responsibility for everything published here sits with the publication rather than with an anonymous freelancer.
Editorial responsibility
The Purr Post is founded and edited by Sameer Patel, founder and chief executive of KCS Global Group, which publishes this site alongside several other independent consumer titles. He sets the editorial standards described on this page and is accountable for what appears on it.
If something we have published is wrong, incomplete or unclear, write to info@thepurrpost.com and it will reach him directly.
Where our information comes from
We are a publication, not a veterinary practice. Our job is to read the clinical literature carefully and explain it in plain English. These are the organisations we lean on most, and we link to them throughout the site so you can check our work rather than take our word for it.
-
Cornell Feline Health Center
The oldest institution devoted solely to feline health, attached to Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Our first stop for disease and condition information.
-
Feline Veterinary Medical Association
Formerly the American Association of Feline Practitioners. Publishes the consensus practice guidelines that US feline veterinarians actually work from.
-
American Veterinary Medical Association
Policy, position statements and public-facing guidance for pet owners across the United States.
-
ASPCA Cat Care
Practical welfare and husbandry guidance, and the Animal Poison Control Center resources we reference in anything involving toxicity.
-
American Animal Hospital Association
Accreditation standards and the vaccination, nutrition and life-stage guidelines used by accredited US practices.
What this site is not
The Purr Post does not provide veterinary advice, diagnosis or treatment, and nothing published here creates a veterinarian-client-patient relationship. We cannot examine your cat, and a website that has never met an animal should never be the last word on its health.
If your cat is straining in the litter box, has stopped eating, is breathing with effort, has been vomiting repeatedly, or seems suddenly unlike itself, stop reading and call a veterinarian or an emergency clinic. Cats hide illness until they cannot, which means visible symptoms are often already late. The full terms are set out in our disclaimer.
How we pay for this
The Purr Post is free to read and funded in two ways: advertising displayed alongside our articles, and affiliate commissions when a reader buys a product through one of our links. That commission costs you nothing extra.
Neither revenue source buys influence over what we write. We do not sell guest posts, we do not accept payment for favourable reviews, and we do not let a commission rate decide which product we recommend. When a category has no product we would put in our own homes, we say so instead of picking a winner. Our full disclosure is on the affiliate disclosure page.
