Affiliate Disclosure
Some links on The Purr Post earn us a commission. This page explains exactly how that works, what it costs you (nothing), and the rules we follow so that money never decides what we recommend.
Effective date: September 21, 2026 | Last updated: September 21, 2026
The short version
- If you buy something through a link on our site, we may earn a small commission.
- You pay the same price you would pay anyway. The commission comes from the retailer.
- No brand can pay to be recommended, reviewed or ranked higher.
- Every article that contains affiliate links says so near the top of the page.
1.What an affiliate link is
An affiliate link is a link to a retailer’s website that contains a code identifying The Purr Post. If you click one of these links and then buy something from that retailer, usually within a limited time, the retailer pays us a percentage of the sale as a referral fee.
The retailer knows you came from our site. It does not tell us who you are, what your address or payment details are, or which specific items you bought. How affiliate cookies work is explained in our privacy policy.
2.What it costs you
Nothing extra. The price you pay is the same whether you use our link or go to the retailer directly. The commission comes out of the retailer’s marketing budget, not your pocket.
You are never obliged to use our links. If you would rather buy a product somewhere else, or not buy it at all, the information in our articles is exactly as useful to you.
3.Programs we take part in
The Purr Post is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
We may also take part in affiliate programs run by other retailers, pet supply stores and affiliate networks. The same rules on this page apply to every one of them. Taking part in a program does not mean a retailer has approved, sponsored or reviewed anything we publish.
4.How we choose what to recommend
Our editorial team decides what to recommend before anyone checks whether a product has an affiliate program or what commission it pays. Recommendations are based on:
- Safety first: materials, choking and entrapment risks, recall history, and anything a veterinarian would flag
- How well the product suits cats’ actual behavior and needs, not just how it looks in a photo
- Manufacturer specifications, ingredient and guaranteed analysis panels where relevant, and independent safety information
- Patterns in verified owner experiences, especially long-term reliability and common complaints
- Value for money at different budgets
Where we have used a product hands-on, the article says so. Where a recommendation is based on research alone, we say that too. If none of the products in a category meets our standard, we tell you rather than pick a winner. Our full process is described in our editorial policy.
5.What we never do
- Accept payment to include, review or rank a product
- Publish sponsored content or guest posts dressed up as independent reviews
- Let a higher commission rate move a product up a list
- Give a brand the right to approve or edit an article before it is published
- Hide negative findings about a product because it pays us a commission
- Recommend a product for a health problem in place of seeing a veterinarian
If we ever get one of these wrong, we want to hear about it. Email info@thepurrpost.com.
6.Free products and samples
Occasionally a manufacturer may offer us a product to look at. If we accept one, the article that mentions it will say clearly that we received it free of charge. Receiving a product never guarantees coverage, a positive review or a place on a list, and we do not return products in exchange for favorable treatment.
7.Advertising
Separately from affiliate links, The Purr Post shows display advertising served by Google AdSense and other ad networks. We do not choose the individual adverts you see, and an advert on our pages is not an endorsement of the advertiser or its products. You can read how advertising cookies work, and how to opt out of personalized ads, in our privacy policy.
8.Where you will see disclosures
This page is not the only place we tell you. In line with the US Federal Trade Commission’s Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising, every article that contains affiliate links carries a short, clear notice near the top of the page, before the first affiliate link, so you know before you click.
We also link to this page from the footer of every page on the site, alongside our disclaimer and terms of service.
